My First Daring Baker's Challenge: Nanaimo Bars!

The January 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Lauren of Celiac Teen. Lauren chose Gluten-Free Graham Wafers and Nanaimo Bars as the challenge for the month. The sources she based her recipe on are 101 Cookbooks and www.nanaimo.ca.

I was very excited to do this month's challenge as my entire family on my Dad's side is from Canada, and this is supposed to be a true Canadian dessert.

I was a little disappointed with the way that mine came out, but it may be because I used the weight watchers version instead of the one that Lauren gave. I will be posting pictures later, I stole the one above for now! :)

Nanaimo Bars are incredibly rich if done the way they were originally intended to be. I have a recipe, but rarely make it. Back in the 80's I used to call them Ten Dollar bars ... because it cost me that much to buy the ingredients. Now they'd probably be 20 dollar bars I used to cut them in one inch squares and bring them to work.
